Words like consciousness, becoming conscious, awareness, and awakening are often used in spiritual teachings and conversations.
When employed by different individuals or streams of thought, the words may not always refer to the same movement of spirit, mind, energy or possibility. Since you were searching today on the word consciousness, let’s spend a few moments together in exploration.
As defined by many sources, and likely the broadest way individuals use the word consciousness, it means:
… the quality or state of being aware especially of something within oneself.
… awareness of a state or object either internal or in one’s external environment.
… a state of understanding, realizing, or being awake to.
… being aware of one’s own existence, thoughts, feelings, and surroundings.
… the state of being awake, rather than being asleep or unconscious.
At the deepest taproot of spiritual wisdom, especially in the esoteric teachings, Consciousness is an alive field that precedes all form, thought, emotion, feeling, sensation. The mystics, ancient sages, wisdom keepers, shaman, healers know this field as not separate from themselves and a field accessible to us all. They know through direct experience that we can train to realize this field as the True Nature of Reality. It is a field of pure potential. It is the vibrational light from which we emerge and into which we recede without ever being separated from. It is the mystery waiting to know itself.
Once experienced in this way, the student of Consciousness reads the above definitions and penetrates through them.
