Through the Lens of the Esoteric
“The most esoteric teachings of all, to the student dedicated to being of benefit, becomes the most practical magic of all, lived in plain view for all to see.”
~ Deborah

What is esoteric?
Many people think of esoteric as referring to something that is oblique, that is unprovable, veiled, even hidden. To the usual state of dull consciousness, this is true. However, to the “initiated”, to those who “have eyes to see and ears to hear”, or as is written in the Gospel of Thomas, “those who make the outside like the inside and make the inside like the outside …. will know the Kingdom of Heaven”. The state of consciousness both scriptures point to is a stabilized, unified awareness where opposites exist as distinction, without the need for separation. When the individual becomes grounded in this state of consciousness, what was once considered oblique, unprovable, hidden is suddenly revealed. And what is revealed has always been present; the individual just hasn’t been available to See It! So esoteric teachings are offered to those who have prepared themselves…. who have devoted their inner life to a new awareness …. those capable of integrating the seen and unseen realms, devoted to restoring harmony to the upheaval of all worlds. These are the inner, greater mysteries.
What is exoteric?
Although sometimes referred to as the opposite of esoteric refers to the view of reality that most individuals give attention to. Exoteric is the outer form of things… an understanding that requires no direct experience. Exoteric teachings are those available to the public, usually disembodied, requiring no experience capable of inviting the student into a personal knowing. These are the outer, lesser teachings.
Mystery School is a Bridge
Mystery School bridges these two through ritual, initiation and the invitation to students to cultivate their own unique interior experiences, and thus their own unique meaning. The practices of Mystery School could be called the Mesoteric…. the bridge space, the outer practices that stabilize an inner state of consciousness capable of entering into the esoteric view of possibility.
